Maryann Clarke, Alumni Achievement Award in Sports
Maryann Higgs-Clarke was born on December 24th, 1962. She attended Saint Augustine’s College “The Big Red Machine” from 1974-1980, this is where she established herself as a track athlete. During her time as an athlete, she was amongst the top track and field athletes in the Country and Caribbean Region. In 1978, Maryann Higgs-Clarke won the first Austin Sealy Award for The Bahamas at The Carifta Games held in The Bahamas. The Austin Sealy Award has been presented since 1977 to the Most Outstanding Athlete of The Carifta Games. It was named in honour of the man who spearheaded the Games in 1972. As the tune of the song goes “All Day, All Night It’s Maryann” was a song that was played whenever she ran. She is married to Patrick Clarke. They have two daughters, Lanece and Shant’e Clarke.
